We have contracted with Pratt to provide a comingled bin at our school. It should be here any day now! See below for a list of items that will be accepted. The classrooms will be recycling as well. There will be a rotating two-member team (Recycling Coordinators) from each classroom that will transport the recyclables created in the classroom to the recycle bin.

  • DROP OFF the bottles at Mr. Moore's room.

Be sure to check the symbol on the bottom (#2's are your milk jugs). This website has links to lots of information about recycling plastic: http://earth911.org/recycling/plastic-bottle-recycling/plastic-bottle-recycling-facts/

PLASTIC BAGS

Ms. Guerrero's class is collecting PLASTIC BAGS from Kroger, Publix, Walmart etc. There is a box in her classroom for collecting those bags.

BATTERIES

Bring your old batteries to be recycled! Place them in the "Battery Recycling Bucket" on the PTO table in the cafe. If you would like to donate money to the GREEN team to help with this program, please see Ms. Harris. Thank you and we hope that this will serve as your safe disposal of batteries.

NIKE REUSE-A-SHOE PROGRAM - OLD ATHLETIC SHOES

BACKGROUND

The Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program began in 1990 with the goal of reducing the amount of athletic shoes that are in landfills. Nike created the first basketball court made from recycled tennis shoes in 1993. The surface is called the "Nike Grind" surface. Today, Nike has built more than 300 Nike Grind surfaces with recycled tennis shoes and are now accepting old shoes at all Nike retail locations. (Did you know? There are four locations in Atlanta that have the Nike Grind surface!)

HOW CAN I HELP?

How can I recycle my shoes?
Bring your old shoes to any Reuse-A-Shoe collection location which can be found at Nike retail stores.
What kinds of shoes can I recycle?
Only athletic shoes, not cleats or shoes with spikes. Also, no sandals, dress shoes, boots or other types of shoes. You may bring up to 10 pairs of shoes to any one location at one time.
What happens to my shoes after I drop them off?
Your shoes are sent to a Nike recycling facility which are processed into Nike Grind, a play surface.
Where will the Collection Bin at Braelinn be located?
Braelinn's collection bin will be located in the gym. Shoes will be collected in the months of December and January.
