About BraelinnBraelinn Elementary School is a public elementary school located in a neighborhood setting. This setting allows students to arrive at school in many different ways: walk, ride with their parents on a golf cart or bicycle, carpool or ride a bus. Braelinn opened in 1990 as a K-5 elementary school having 847 students, 69 faculty and support staff, and two administrators. For the 2009-2010 school year, Braelinn had a projected enrollment of approximately 525 students. The school mascot is the Braelinn Star. The school colors are kelly green, royal blue, and yellow. A large playground and physical education area is available for students and teachers. The courtyard is designed for use as an outdoor education classroom. The PTO has continued to make additions to the courtyard. It has a podium and benches arranged in a classroom style. A brick walkway winds through the beautifully landscaped area and near a pond stocked with goldfish.
Braelinn Elementary's Science Olympiad Team won first place in the state competition in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Braelinn students continue to excel and win numerous awards and honors. The Parent Teacher Organization conducts numerous fund-raising projects throughout each school year. These funds are used for playground improvements, technology needs in the classrooms, the computer lab and the media center, landscape and courtyard improvements, and staff needs and requests. Teacher-sponsored clubs are offered for students. Some of these clubs are Chorus, Kindness Kids Club, and Running Club. The school also allows Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups and basketball leagues to use the school building. In addition, students are offered the services of an in-house After School Program that provides a variety of activities. Braelinn is very fortunate to have an extraordinary amount of community support. This support is provided in many ways, allowing parents to participate in various ways. Over the past five years, a total of 60,000 volunteer hours has been recorded. In addition, many hours go unreported. Volunteers assist in the following areas: hearing and vision screening, media center, school directory, holiday lunches, staff appreciation lunches, classroom, workroom, courtyard, school grounds, cultural arts programs, yearbook, Star Tree program, publicity, school calendar, website, and newsletter. |
The hotline is designed for crisis
prevention. If students know of an unsafe situation in school (weapons violations, bomb threats, drugs or alcohol, bullying,
etc.), they can anonymously pass on that information through the hotline, initiating immediate and appropriate action.
Braelinn holds a
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation. In 1996, Braelinn was awarded the Georgia School of Excellence designation.
